MySQL probleme

hi...

ich habe ein kleines problem mit meinem mysql-server ich bekomme ihn einfach nicht zum laufen.
kann mir da bitte jemand unter die arme greifen?
der webserver läuft hne probleme...

ich nutze mandriva 2007, habe mir ein tar.gz runtergeladen auf diesem link hier
der genaue name ist "mysql-5.0.45-linux-i686.tar.gz".

dieses archiv habe ich wie in der INSTALL-BINARY beschrieben zu konfigurieren versucht....

shell> groupadd mysql
     shell> useradd -g mysql mysql
     shell> cd /usr/local
     shell> gunzip < /PATH/TO/MYSQL-VERSION-OS.tar.gz | tar xvf -
     shell> ln -s FULL-PATH-TO-MYSQL-VERSION-OS mysql
     shell> cd mysql
     shell> chown -R mysql .
     shell> chgrp -R mysql .


bis hier hin funktioniert alles super und dann kommt folgene meldung

./bin/mysqld --skip-grant &
and use the command line tool
./bin/mysql to connect to the mysql
database and look at the grant tables:

shell> ./bin/mysql -u root mysql
mysql> show tables

Try 'mysqld --help' if you have problems with paths. Using --log
gives you a log in ./data that may be helpful.

nach eingabe des shell> ./bin/mysql -u root mysql kommt diese fehlermeldung

diese datei habe ich nicht in meinem temp... was mache ich falsch?wer weis rat?
ich habe das auch schon mit der version 6.0 versucht...
